Welcome and thank you for visiting our About Us page! I’m Derek, the owner of Paradise Window Coverings. As you read this section, you’ll get to know a little about me and what to expect as we work together to find the right window treatment solution for your project.
Born and raised on the windward side of Oahu, my professional career includes approximately 15 years in the construction industry in project and quality control management, quality assurance inspection, and estimating. Although I experienced success and advancement within my profession, I’ve always dreamed of one day owning my own company. In June 2018, our family had the opportunity to make the transition, and we took the leap of faith!
Transitioning to a new industry cannot be successful without the help of good people behind you. My wife, Keiko, a registered nurse, as well as my parents, who founded the largest flooring company in Hawaii, have been valuable sounding boards for me. For large and technically challenging projects, I work with a team of talented window treatment installers who take pride in their work. The number of people that I could recognize for their help and support could go on and on, but you get the picture. The proverb, “It takes a village,” applies to my business as well.

Stage 1 The discovery stage is where we explore what your priorities are. Privacy, fashion, budget, heat reduction, light management (i.e., light filtering vs blackout), safety, and automation are all common topics discussed during the discovery stage. Before we meet, think about what your priorities are. Narrowing your priorities will facilitate a more productive consult. Knowing what your budget is will help me guide you to the right products and options that not only meet your criteria, but also fit within your budget.
Stage 2 The exploratory stage is where we explore the various products that meet your criteria. For example, you may have young children and also want to reduce the amount of heat entering into the home. In this particular case, honeycomb/cellular shades with cordless lift or motorized control might be discussed. Or, maybe you have a wide opening that you want a more contemporary look for. Skyline Sliding Panels would be an option that we could discuss.
Stage 3 Once we have explored all options, we move on to the product selection stage. This is where we finalize the product, fabrics, and options that not only fit within your criteria, but also you are excited about! Window coverings really add to the décor of your home, and by this time, we will have selected choices you are passionate about! During this stage, I will generate a quote, review the quote with you, and answer any questions you have. When you decide to move forward and a deposit is placed, I will place the order. Lead time varies by product and size of order.
Stage 4 As soon as your treatments have arrived, we move to the installation stage. I will call you to coordinate the installation at a time that works for the both of us. In most cases, I will be installing the treatments in your home. For larger projects, I will bring someone from my team to assist me. We understand that we are guests in your home, and have the utmost respect for your privacy and property. Our work is clean, neat, and detailed. Your satisfaction is our goal!
